Current Focus:

"Cisco has long recognized its responsibility to provide industry leading innovation and strong corporate stewardship. The convergence of data center infrastructure, applications and operations has opened up new opportunities for Cisco to maximize the impact of the network to increase power efficiencies. The ubiquity of the network and its enterprise-wide footprint make it an ideal focus area for the monitoring and management of facilities. While the network extends past the data center, Cisco recognizes that this environment is ideally suited to working in partnership with others in order to reduce the overall carbon footprint of our industry. To that end, Cisco recognizes The Green Grid as a leading consortium and is excited to be participating as a Contributor Member and collaborating on issues that have global implications and cross competitive lines."

- Jayshree Ullal, Senior Vice President, Data Center Switching, Security and Storage Technology Group

Cisco recognizes the potential of the network as a platform for the measurement, monitoring and management of power consumption for both facilities and IT infrastructure. Long term Cisco is developing solutions that empower users to take control of power consumption and efficiency in the data center and beyond. Today, Cisco provides hardware, software and professional service based solutions that help both IT and facilities users slow power growth, open up power capacity and drive efficiency into the data center operation.

Current Focus:
Interxion is a dedicated data centre provider and a Contributor Member of The Green Grid. Interxion is currently collaborating with a number of groups, including The Green Grid, the Uptime Institute and the European Commission to develop and deliver practical, universal standards for rating energy efficiency in the data centre.

Interxion believes that a green data centre should be designed to meet business requirements while being environmentally, operationally, and financially sustainable.  Key to delivering this is the careful management of operational power and energy use.  Interxion's primary focus is to maximize the amount of useful power delivered to customer IT equipment.  To achieve this, Interxion measures Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) in all 22 of its data centers, and has done so for several years now, resulting in year-on-year efficiency gains.
In addition, energy efficiency can be achieved through smart design.  Interxion pioneered a modular architecture for its first data centre build-outs in 1998, and has been refining and improving this approach ever since, with excellent results.
